Chaddrick James-Gallaway

Assistant Professor at Texas A&M

Chaddrick James-Gallaway is a doctoral candidate in higher education and the sociology of education in the Department of Education, Policy Organization & Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Broadly, his work examines race, racism, and the racialized experiences of students of color within P-20 educational contexts. James-Gallaway seeks to advance understanding of the nuances of cross-racial interactions within higher education to better support students of color at historically white institutions. 

As a University of Michigan alumnus, James-Gallaway trained at the Program on Intergroup Relations. As a researcher and practitioner, his expertise in the area of intergroup and cross-racial dialogues in higher education. In his role as a research associate for OCCRL, he has worked with multiple career and technical education programs across Illinois to improve equitable outcomes for student success through the Pathways to Results project. In this capacity, James-Gallaway has designed and implemented racially conscious professional development training on racial microaggressions, addressing the racialized community college climates, and intergroup dialogue for faculty, staff, and administrators.

James-Gallaway is a University Council for Education Administration Barbara L. Jackson Scholar, a Diversifying Faculty in Illinois Fellow, and the recipient of the University of Illinois Community College Leadership Scholarship and the Hibel Family Higher Education Internship Award. While at Illinois he has taught graduate, undergraduate, and online courses and has been recognized numerous times as an Excellent Instructor by the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning based on student evaluations.
