Applied Baccalaureate Degrees

Overview

OCCRL has been conducting research on applied baccalaureate (AB) degrees since 2006. In the About Applied Baccalaureate Degrees section, we offer discussions of what qualifies as an AB degree and demonstrate some curriculum models for AB degrees.

From 2006 through 2009, OCCRL researchers, with support from Lumina Foundation for Education, examined AB degrees on a national scale, conducting an inventory of these degrees in public higher education institutions, and examining the state policy context surrounding the degrees’ creation, with particular attention to how the degrees address the needs of adult learners and nontraditional students.

In 2010, OCCRL received a 4-year grant from the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education (NSF-ATE) program to investigate AB degree pathways among projects and centers affiliated with NSF-ATE.
