Discussing Racial Equity in Spaces of Resistance

Discussing Racial Equity in Spaces of Resistance

Speakers: Marci Rockey, Colvin T. Georges Jr., Jason Keist, and Eboni Zamani-Gallaher

The Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL) has significant experience engaging community college stakeholders in conversations related to advancing racial equity. These conversations can be difficult to facilitate and are often met with resistance. Advancing racial equity is critical to closing educational equity gaps in the state of Illinois.

As community colleges around the state have engaged in various OCCRL projects and professional development opportunities, it is clear that support is needed to advance race-centered conversations and confront race-evasiveness. In this session, OCCRL staff members will discuss their experiences engaging in this topic and identify how individuals can be agents of change to create partnerships that advance racial equity in their own contexts.
